BDI
Introduction
Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI) focuses on enhancing the efficiency of data sharing in the logistics sector. BDI has a set of comprehensive agreements for data, balancing control and efficiency to facilitate smooth operations among stakeholders.
Challenge and Context
Information gaps, like inaccessible data or lengthy data transfer protocols, hinder operational coordination in the Operations and Supply Chain domain. A smoother information flow is essential for optimising Operations and Supply Chains. The challenge lies in enhancing the effectiveness of information exchange through automated data exchanges.
Solution
BDI introduces standardised data-sharing practices with core objectives including establishing digital trust, implementing semantics for automated processing, and providing event-based alerts. By adhering to these principles, BDI streamlines information exchange processes, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and responsiveness within supply chain operations.
How it works
The BDI Framework comprises a stack of components with semantic, technical, and governance blocks. Individual associations, which are responsible for onboarding, checks, or verification, utilise this model. Within an Association, efficient trust is maintained and trust with outsiders is continuously evaluated within a perimeter-less zero trust environment.
Added Value Through the iSHARE Trust Framework
BDI leverages the iSHARE Trust Framework as a foundational layer and cornerstone in fortifying trust within its associations. The BDI Trust Framework builds upon the iSHARE Trust Framework and seeks interoperability with other data space initiatives (IDSA, GAIA-X). Through this, BDI achieves robust identity and access control over its data resources. Seamlessly integrating the iSHARE Trust Framework into its digital infrastructure ensures the integrity and security of data exchanges within the operations and supply chain domain. This integration enhances transparency and accountability, instilling confidence among stakeholders.
