Cultural Heritage

Cultural Tourism accounts for 40% of all tourism in Europe, employing over 8 million people through 1.2 million firms, 99.9% of which are SMEs. The digitisation of cultural heritage assets, such as monuments, sites, objects, and artefacts, is crucial to protect and preserve them for future generations and boost education, sustainable tourism, and the cultural creative sectors. Data spaces ensure a secure and sustainable ecosystem, providing digital skills and technology uptake for interoperability and collaboration within the Cultural Heritage sector.

The Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage has aided the digital transformation of Europe’s cultural sector. Initiatives like Europeana provide educators, researchers, and culture enthusiasts with access to Europe’s rich cultural heritage, reaching new audiences by developing engaging stories, innovative awareness campaigns, and more. Other significant initiatives, such as EUreka3D, address high-quality 3D digitisation challenges faced by Cultural Heritage institutions. 5Dculture delivers high-quality European 3D digital cultural heritage assets for use in Fashion Collections, Archaeological 3D Content, and Historic Buildings and Cityscapes.
