For SaaS & Cloud Companies

The European Data Governance Act, alongside the Data Act, mandates SaaS companies to empower their clients with full control over their stored data. In addition to GDPR compliance, safeguarding business data while ensuring its productive use is paramount. In this context, the iSHARE Trust Framework streamlines trusted data sharing, designed to standardise controlled data sharing. Through the Trust network and Authorisation Registry services, the sharing of specific client data is ensured to be both legally and technically sound. This Framework can also serve as a business model offering data sharing as a service to clients seeking collaboration with third parties, including government entities and value chain partners.

Benefits of Joining the iSHARE Network:

By joining the iSHARE Network, SaaS companies can:

  • Save time and resources on developing complex authorisation structures within applications.
  • Gain access to additional data sets from existing clients on various platforms with proper authorisation.
  • Uphold clients’ trust by committing to securely handle the data.
  • Stay aligned with European data guidelines.
  • Enhance the security of online services through iSHARE-certified identities.

A Step-by-step Guide

To get started, the initial step entails joining the iSHARE network as a Service Provider. Subsequently, adhering to the developer manuals and step-by-step instructions is imperative to seamlessly integrate the iSHARE specifications and workflows into daily operations. Here’s a breakdown of the steps for Service Providers:

  1. Utilise trusted data sources with established reliability and accuracy to ensure consistent data quality. Examples include energy company’s data, government obligations, or land registry information.
  2. Aim to multi-to-multi connections instead of one-to-one connections for more efficient data sharing.
  3. Ensure simplicity in the initial data service to allow for easy recognition and diverse potential applications.
  4. Start with an existing API based on the identification, authentication, and authorization standard within the data space whenever possible.
  5. Label data properly to identify the relevant parties within the data space, such as using EORI numbers.

By following these steps and leveraging the iSHARE Trust Framework, SaaS and cloud companies can enhance their data sharing capabilities while maintaining compliance and security standards.
